Welcome back everyone, it was lovely to hear what you had been up to during the half term holiday.
On Monday we had a very special delivery of seven eggs. We predicted what type of eggs they might be; ideas included penguins and dragons, as well as chickens and ducks. By Tuesday afternoon small cracks had appeared in a couple of the eggs. The first two ducklings emerged safely on Wednesday morning, just after I had arrived. Two more hatched during the morning and by home time we had six ducklings, chirping away, wandering around their cage and then cuddling up together for a sleep. The seventh egg showed no signs of life. Fortunately, on Thursday morning a crack appeared and it hatched soon after. It has been a very special experience for us all to see the different stages and we have become very attached to them. Class 2 have never had so many visitors - teachers, children from other classes, office staff, and parents, popping in with messages, borrowing things, any 'eggscuse' (did you see what I did there?!) to see the gorgeous ducklings.
As you can imagine the ducklings have been our main focus this week but we have done some work too! - In English we have been performing poetry, including tongue twisters and nursery rhymes we changed to make funny. PE is on Mondays this half term and is Squash, led by Lexden Squash Club. We started this week by working on different movements needed to improve agility. In Maths, Year 2 have been rounding to the nearest 10 and using the signs < and >. Year 1 have been adding and subtracting 10 and multiples of 10.
Enjoy the photos of our babies!

Final Blog from Mrs Riggs
Class 2 have had a very busy week. We have been looking at a wonderful book, The Day the Crayons Quit, and the children have enjoyed role playing the crayons to explore their feelings. We have had a lot of fun deciding on the different voices and facial expressions for all of the crayons, and some brave children even had a turn in the hot seat, answering questions in role as a crayon!
On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have a visit from an animal workshop. The children learned about, and were able to touch, cockroaches, a frog, a corn snake and a rabbit, and also observed a scorpion turning blue under ultraviolet light! They were hugely brave to get up so close to the animals, whilst I observed from the back!!!
Class 2 have also been learning about 3D shapes in Maths this week. We have had lots of fun playing Guess My Shape, or Shape Bingo, and some children made 3D shapes from nets. On Friday, we investigated the properties of 3D shapes, by seeing which ones were best for making igloos; cubes, spheres or cylinders. The children made some wonderful igloos, and concluded that cubes were best, as their flat faces made it easier to fit them together.
Sadly, this will be my last blog for Class 2, as my training placement ends on Tuesday. I have absolutely loved working with the children and, of course, the staff at Fordham All Saints, and it has been a privilege to get to know them all. Thank you all for an amazing and enjoyable few weeks, which I will remember for a long time to come.
