Week 4 29th September

In Literacy we will be looking at all different kinds of instructions, including recipes. This will include some cooking!
We will be working with 2D shapes in Maths and we have an exciting experiment to do in Science.
Maths homework is on the computer again this week and there is a phonics activity in the homework book.
Keep reading and remember all the lovely books available on Oxford Owl. Can you find any books which include instructions?

I love friday afternoons when the children can do lots of creative 'theme' work!
Over the last two weeks the year 1 children have used class 1's outside area and
covered sheets of paper with watery glue and then sprinkled sand on them
to replicate the wall of a cave!

The following friday having looked at real cave paintings and having read the story
'The First Drawing' by Mordicai Gerstein, they painted on the walls of their caves.

The results were brilliant! They looked so realistic!

They painted woolly mammoths and other animals and in some instances
added hand prints to their paintings!

They made patterns and marks just like the little boy in the story.
They used the natural colours that the little boy used.

The rest of us were learning how to draw woolly mammoths using thick pencils or charcoal,
The results were amazing!
Well done Class 2 - lots of great artists in the making!!!

Looking forward to this friday .......

Today we had to make bodies and legs for animals. Each leg had to be half as long as the body, or the body length had to be double that of the leg!

Wednesday afternoons are when all the year 1 children get together with Mrs MacMorrin!

At the moment we are learning about Thinking Things Through Maths - which is problem solving!

So we needed to be able to double and halve numbers, recognise odd and even numbers and record our findings! Some of us tried to be systematic and find patterns in our results!

Every one worked very hard and succeeded in making different animals!

I wonder what our Thinking Through Maths will be next week?!

We've had a busy week, working hard and having fun!

Sorting materials in Science
and Thinking Things Through in Maths.

Next week in Science we will be carrying on with our investigations into materials. In Maths we will be doubling numbers and continuing to 'think things through'
Literacy will be looking at some more stories by John Burningham and writing our own fantasy stories.
Well done to the children who have already had a go at this week's Maths homework - the scores look very impressive!
Don't forget you can look on the Oxford Owl site if you want more books to read. Login details are in the reading journals.

Monday, 8 September 2014

Welcome back to Class 2, hope you had a lovely Summer.
We have lots of exciting activities planned this term including travelling back in time.
Today we received a message that something strange was happening in the school. Naturally we went to investigate!

This is what we saw....

Who are these people?
Why are they on our school field?
