Our special toys and objects

This week we have enjoyed having our special toys and objects in school with us. The children talked about why they were particularly special to them and then drew some wonderful pictures and wrote about them. Teddies were most popular but we also saw other interesting items such as trophies, medals, precious stones, blankets and an om symbol.

In English we listened to another Janet & Allan Ahlberg story - Cops and Robbers. The children were detectives, reading and writing clues to guess the characters. We were focusing on using capital letters correctly.

In Maths we have been adding and writing number sentences using the correct symbols. Year 2 have been practising their recall of number bonds to 10 and 20, and writing related subtraction facts. We will be continuing with addition and subtraction.
Monday afternoon is Harvest service in the church, have a lovely weekend.

ising pop!

This week we have had so much fun, learning new songs and moves. I am sure the children have been singing them at home - I've been singing them in my sleep! We have rehearsed, recorded and then performed in church. What a lovely sight it was to see the whole school singing with such enthusiasm and enjoyment - the sound was fantastic.

In Maths we have been practising our counting.

In reading time we have continued looking for rhyming words in nursery rhymes and some children enjoyed performing to the class.

In Science, Year 2 have been learning about natural and man-made materials. They sorted items and made collages from either natural or man-made materials.

Science challenge - Transparent means see through, opaque means you can't see through it. What is the word for a material which allows you to see through it a bit e.g frosted glass?

Next week we will be talking about out special objects - don't forget to bring them in on Monday.
Have a lovely weekend.

Week 2

The children have worked hard this week getting to know the new routines in Class 2. We started our daily phonics sessions as well as spelling, grammar and arithmetic sessions with Year 2. The Year 1 children have been getting used to changing their own reading books and 'quiet' reading time. In English we have been looking at rhyming words through Nursery Rhymes. We looked at an alternative version of Little Bo Peep, written by the sheep who were playing 'hide and seek' when they got lost. Also we read Tom, Tom the Piper's Son by the pig who felt sorry for Tom because had hidden him in the woods to stop him from becoming bacon and sausages! In Maths we have been focussing on correct number formation and orientation, we have also been practising counting accurately. Year 2 have been estimating and counting large numbers of objects accurately by grouping and counting in 10s.
Linked with this term's Christian value we created responsibili-'trees' and learned a catchy song which has been going round my head all week!
This half term's spellings will be coming home this week.
Really looking forward to 'Ising Pop' next week!

Year 2 Science
The children were sorting materials according to different properties, they then went round to see if they could guess how each group had sorted theirs.

Welcome back Class 2!

What a wonderful start to the new school year! Class 2 came in with big smiles, ready and eager to learn. I have been very impressed with how many Year One children came into class all by themselves - some even on the first day! This week we have been getting used to the new routines and getting to know each other, catching up with friends and making new friends. The Year Two children have been really grown up, helping the younger children and they have been great role models. Here are a few photos of what we've been up to this week ...

Have a lovely weekend and see you on Monday!
