Tropical Wings

We had a great day out at 'Tropical Wings' on Tuesday, the rain stopped and the sun shone. We saw lots of animals from all over the world but were particularly interested in the Australian ones!

Next week, as part of our Literacy, we will be writing 'thank you' letters to the staff at the zoo. In Maths we will be working with money; shopping, giving change and solving problems.
Monday afternoon is our assembly where we will be sharing our learning with parents who can join us. On Tuesday we will be having our final football session with Colchester United and we round the term off on Friday with our Easter Service in church, followed by the Easter tea.

Week beginning 9th March

This week in Literacy we are working on a poetry unit using 'Where the Forest meets the Sea' by Jeannie Baker. At the end of the week, through our Literacy / Theme work, we are looking at the what happened to Captain Cook after his voyage on the Endeavour. In maths we are working on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and doing some further work on fractions! And of
course we haven't forgotten its Mothering Sunday next sunday, which calls for some creativity at the end of the week!!
We had a busy and exciting week last week. Captain Cook set off on the Endeavour and found New Zealand and Australia - GREAT writing again, on this, Class 2!
We also enjoyed starting to make our replica Endeavours and dressing up for World Book Day on Thursday.

week beginning 2nd March

Last week Class 2 started an exciting journey with Captain Cook! The children used Power Points and DVD clips and stories to find out about his early life and then wrote recounts of this. In design and technology the children made some labelled sketches of Captain Cook's ship the Endeavour. This week they are going to begin to make their own replicas of the ship, using their ideas from their sketches. Here are some of the sketches:

Also this week, in Literacy at the beginning of the week we are starting to look at books by Jeannie Baker. She was born in England and now lives in Australia. She is an author - artist famous for special collage constructions in her books, which look at environmental issues. At the end of the week our theme literacy will take us back to Captain Cook's exciting journey to New Zealand and Australia.
Our maths this week looks at number and place value, mental multiplication and division, and frations, ratio and proportion!
On top of all this, we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday, coming into school as a favourite book character ............ so will we know who is who?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
