Did the child with the longest arms throw the furthest?

About half of the children predicted that the person with the longest arms would throw the furthest.

We measured the length of  our arms, making sure the metre stick was the right way round!

We recorded this in a table

We each threw the bean bag and measured carefully
 using a long tape measure
Esmé has the longest arms in our class but William threw the bean bag the furthest. After the investigation most of the children decided that the length of arms didn't affect how far you could throw but it was probably due to strength, power and technique.

Maths homework this week is to practise telling the time, many children found this difficult. Please see homework books for more details. There is a phonics activity and I will make sure there are plenty of books to read on Bug Club.

Change of PE day to Tuesday next half term - Colchester United coaches will be taking our lessons. The children will need a tracksuit and trainers and we start the first day back.

Have a fabulous half term holiday, I look forward to hearing all about it when we return.

Wonderful Writing

This week we have written our Traditional Australian Tales and I have really enjoyed reading them. The children have made great progress from their 'cold pieces', look out for some examples on the 'Wonderful Writing Wall'.
Maths homework this week is on Active Learn and some children have an extra activity to practise counting in 5s - forwards and backwards. There is also a phonics activity in the homework book. I am pleased to see more children are enjoying the Bug Club books, don't forget to do the green bug activities.
Next week we will be doing a progress test in Maths and having learning conferences with each child to set personal targets. Take some time to think about what is going well and if you have any worries. In Science we will be investigating whether the children with the longest arms can throw the furthest. In R.E. we reflecting on Jesus' teaching through the story of 'The Good Samaritan'.

Week beginning 2nd Feb

This week in Literacy we are going to write our own 'warm' Australian Animal stories, using all we have learnt in the last few weeks. In maths we will be looking at number and place value and multiplication and division. We will also consolidate our learning on 'telling the time' at the end of the week and also visit the Australian rainforest through work on Fern Gully.We will hopefully finish our Aborigine paintings on fabric too. Look below at some of our work so far........
