We All Went on Safari!
We continued with our wonderful writing last week. The children all planned and wrote their own versions of a counting story in the style of We All Went on Safari. I was very impressed with the quality of writing and the beautiful illustrations. In Maths we have been making 2 and 3 digit numbers using base 10 and place value cards. The children then wrote related addition and subtraction number sentences. In PE the children have been improving their football skills and in RE we have been learning about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

Wonderful Writing and Marvellous Maths!
A great week of learning in Class 2. In English we have been enjoying the story of Handa's Hen - a counting story set in Kenya. We have been focussing on adjectives again as well as repetitive language and number words. The children wrote some great sentences, remembering to add punctuation. Year 2 included expanded noun phrases and conjunctions in their sentences. In Maths we made some real progress with making amounts using different coins, our counting in 2s, 5s and 10s helped us with this. In RE we all had bibles and read the creation story together. After that we discussed whose responsibility it was to look after the world and designed posters.
In Science we were investigating the statement - 'Your foot is the same size as your forearm.' What do you think?

Welcome back!
How lovely it was to welcome everyone back and hear about the wonderful holidays the children had had and the presents they had received.
We started out new theme of Africa, in particular Kenya. In English we started looking at stories with repetitive language and focused on writing sentences containing adjectives. In Maths we have started applying number and place value to money activities. We have been using coins to help counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
PE, this half term, will be led by Colchester United and in RE we started thinking about 'Our Wonderful World' as an introduction to our unit on 'Special Things in Nature'. The children really enjoyed listening to Louis Armstrong.
Science this term is all about animals and Year 2 have been finding out about the young of different animals and finding out which animals lay eggs and which give birth to live young. The children were also interested in learning for how long different animals were pregnant - almost 2 years for an elephant!
All children have Bug club books allocated to them as well as maths activities on Active Learn. New spellings for this half term have also been sent home.
A polite reminder; please say 'goodbye' to your child at the door and encourage them to come into class independently.

Christmas celebrations!
Christmas began with the Christingle service in church.
Next was the panto!
After that came the Nativity, the children were superb!
On Monday we had a wonderful Victorian Christmas day - thank you Mrs McMillan for organising such a lovely day. The children made decorations, wrapping paper, mince pies and lots more. They also enjoyed playing some traditional Victorian games - not an ipad in sight!
Yesterday was our class Christmas party.
This afternoon we will be singing carols in the church - a lovely way to round off this term.
Thank you from all the staff in class 2 for all our presents, you have been very kind and generous. It has been a great term, the children have worked very hard and are all ready for a well deserved break. Thank you for all your support, have a wonderful Christmas and see you all again in the New Year!
